In March 2020, with Covid-19 spreading around the world, the role of the Bank was transformed when the Chancellor announced a range of fiscal measures to respond to the impending economic crisis. With just 12 days to achieve what would normally take six months, the Bank launched the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CBILS), within six weeks three further schemes had been launched. This placed the Bank, its small in-house communications team and Engine MHP at the heart of the Covid-19 crisis. We protected and managed the Bank’s reputation through the most intense period of public scrutiny in its history.
